WASHINGTON (October 7, 2011)—Congressman Chandler today presented two flags that were flown over the U.S. Capitol to the Healing Field in Lawrenceburg, Ky. The flags are replacements for two flags that went missing from the memorial last week.
“We owe so much to those fallen heroes who are not able to be with us today, the ones who, in the end, made the ultimate sacrifice,” Congressman Chandler said. “It seems unbelievable that anyone could be so disrespectful to our fallen heroes, but I’m glad that we’re able to replace the flags and ensure that the memory of those we’ve lost is not forgotten. The flag is such an important symbol to our nation, and I can’t think of a better home for these flags than here at the Healing Field.”
Lawrenceburg's Healing Field was created by the American Legion Auxiliary as a tribute to fallen Warriors. It is the nation's only permanent Healing Field. The memorial features 103 flags, one for each Kentucky member of the armed services killed in battle since the September 11 attacks.
