Chandler Congratulates Jessamine Student for Appointment

After Chandler nomination, Bryant Renfroe to attend prestigious U.S. Naval Academy

Jessamine County

WASHINGTON (June 1, 2011)—Congressman Chandler met with Jessamine County student Bryant Renfroe to congratulate him on his appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy.  After Chandler’s congressional nomination, Renfroe received an appointment.

“The United States Naval Academy is an outstanding educational institution where some of the best and brightest young people in this county go to prepare for a career in military service,” said Chandler.  “Mr. Renfroe is an impressive young man, and this appointment is a tremendous opportunity for him.  We are all very proud of him and his achievements.”

It is no easy feat to receive an appointment to a U.S. service academy.  Students must have an excellent academic record, participate in extracurricular activities and be in top physical condition.  Renfroe not only endured a rigorous application process with the Naval Academy, but participated in Congressman Chandler’s review process, which includes a final interview by a panel made up of former academy graduates and current or retired officers.

“I hope to further develop the character traits of courage, discipline, honor, and duty that the academy has to teach me,” Renfroe said during the application process. “I am committed to a military career, and the academy will allow me to serve in higher ranks.  I believe the academy is an effective way for me to serve my country and my fellow man.”

In addition to his strong academic record, Renfroe played varsity soccer, ran track, took martial arts, was a member of the Asbury Concert Band, and taught a Bible study class at his church.

According to the Naval Academy, Renfroe will join the ranks of 72,000 men and women who have attended the U.S. Naval Academy, including one U.S. president, 21 members of Congress, 73 Medal of Honor Recipients, and two Nobel Prize winners.
