Montgomery County Veteran Receives WWII Medals

WASHINGTON (March 22, 2011)— Yesterday at an event at the Fayette County Senior Citizens Center, Congressman Chandler presented veteran Sgt. Lester Trent of Montgomery County with a Purple Heart and other medals for his service in the U.S. Army.

“There is no way to truly thank Mr. Trent for all that he did for our country,” Chandler said, “but the very least we can do is help him get the medals he was awarded from his service in World War II. His courageous service to his country deserves to be recognized.”

Mr. Trent was an Anti-Tank Gun Crewman in World War II and served from May 1943 to November 1945 when he was honorably discharged. He served in the Africa-Middle Eastern Campaign and fought in battles of Rome-Arno, Apennines, and Po Valley.   He was injured in Italy on May 31, 1944.

Yesterday, surrounded by family and friends, he received the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze service stars, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII.
