WASHINGTON (February 2, 2011)—Today at a school-wide event at the Stewart Home School in Frankfort, Congressman Chandler congratulated Sarah Brachman for being named the National Down Syndrome Society's 2011 Advocate of the Year.
“Sarah is caring, energetic, and such a hard worker—she is a force in the U.S. Congress,” Chandler said. “She passionately shares her own experiences living with Down syndrome and has lobbied countless lawmakers and others in Washington. Sarah inspired me to join the Congressional Down Syndrome Caucus, and I know she has convinced a number of other members of Congress to join too. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this great honor.”
Through Ms. Brachman’s courageous leadership, countless people, including many members of Congress, have been further educated on issues and legislation important to those living with Down syndrome. Ms. Brachman has interned in Congressman Chandler’s office and in Representative Pete Sessions’ office (TX-32), helping staff members with various tasks.
Ms. Brachman is a resident at the Stewart Home School in Franklin County and will be attending an event in her honor next week in Washington, D.C.
