Congressman Chandler released a statement about the recent earthquake in Haiti:
“My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Haiti and their families in the wake of the devastation caused by the earthquake. Over the past week, the extremely generous response by the U.S. has been overwhelming and invaluable. However, the situation is still critical, and as the people of Haiti begin the healing and rebuilding process, it is important to remember that relief efforts and aid—including clean water, food and medical care—are not only needed in the short term, but will be essential in the coming months.
“To assist those looking for loved ones and more information on how to help, I have created a page on my website with emergency phone numbers, ways to get involved, and contact information for the various different organizations assisting in the relief effort.
“Everyone can do something, whether that is volunteering, donating to an aid organization, or remembering the Haitian people in your prayers. While the U.S. government has committed so many resources to the Haitian people, it is compassion and the outpouring of support from the American people, including Central Kentuckians, making the difference.”
