WASHINGTON (April 10, 2007) Congressman Ben Chandler would like to invite all Sixth District high school students to participate in the annual Congressional Art Competition. This event is a nationwide competition that provides Members of Congress an opportunity to showcase the talents of their creative high school constituents and acknowledge our nation’s gifted young artists.
“I am especially excited about this event because I know we have immensely talented young people in Central Kentucky,” said Congressman Ben Chandler.
Since the competition was created in 1982, hundreds of thousands of high school students have been able to participate at the local level. The winning entries from last year’s competition currently hang in the Cannon House Office Building Tunnel, including the work of Marie Ito of Henry Clay High School in Lexington.
All entries must be submitted to Congressman Chandler’s Lexington District Office by Tuesday, April 24th. There are separate competitions for: paintings, drawings, collage, prints, mixed media, computer generated art and photography. “This is a unique opportunity for us to showcase the vast talents and artistry that are part of Kentucky’s rich history,” said Chandler.
Congressman Chandler is a member of the Congressional Arts Caucus.
