WASHINGTON (September 6, 2006) Today the U.S. House of Representatives passed H. Res. 980 expressing condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of the victims of the crash of Comair Flight 5191.
H. Res. 980 was filed by Congressman Ben Chandler to honor the victims and commend all of those who responded to the tragedy with courage and determination. Chandler is a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee as well as the Aviation Subcommittee.
Prior to passage of the resolution, Congressman Chandler spoke on the House floor regarding the accident and read the names of the 49 victims.
“The small, close-knit town of Lexington and the surrounding communities of Central Kentucky will forever be changed by the scenes from early that Sunday morning—and by the sudden loss of family, friends, neighbors and community leaders,” said Chandler. “Almost everyone in Central Kentucky knew someone on that plane. The loss is a community loss, but also a profoundly personal loss for those of us who remain.”
Kentucky Representatives Davis, Lewis, Northup, Rogers and Whitfield all cosponsored the resolution. Representative Mike Sodrel (IN-09) was also a cosponsor.
