WASHINGTON (March 10, 2006) Congressman Ben Chandler will be at Sayre School at the Old Sayre Administration Building on Monday, March 13th at 9:30 AM to present a certificate of recognition to Philip Linder for his appointment to the United States Military Academy. After Chandler’s congressional nomination, Linder received an appointment to West Point. “The United States Military Academy is an outstanding educational institution where the best of this country go to prepare for a career in military service,” said Chandler. “This appointment is a tremendous opportunity for this young man, and I applaud his efforts and wish him much success.” It is no easy feat to receive an appointment to a U.S. service academy. Students must have an excellent academic record, participate in extracurricular activities and be in top physical condition. Linder not only endured a rigorous application process with West Point, but participated in Congressman Chandler’s review process, which includes a final interview by a panel made up of former academy graduates and current or retired officers. “West Point is something no other institution in America, perhaps the world, can replicate,” said Linder. “The emphasis on morality and ethics at West Point, along with the physical and intellectual training a cadet receives, produces some of the most upstanding individuals our nation offers.” Philip Linder, a member of the National Honor Society, is Student Government President and Co-Captain of the Sayre soccer team. ####
